Question Why are there titles for not playing the game?

It makes no sense to me. How is being afk, sitting on rings, worthy of being a title?

I'm so bored, but can't really play other games (due to lag) while I wait for the points to build up. >_>

It's just stupid. Accept it, move on and hope they don't implement such things in GW2.

Are there any plans to change it? Frankly, the way it is now is ridiculous.

The titles can be worked on by using lockpicks on chests as well. The rings games are there as a money sink.

as far as I understand, a main purpose of 9 rings is to serve as a gold sink. Without any motivation to play (read: title) people wouldn't do it.

Edit: Nice Ninja!

id pay double gold sink to max my unlucky / lucky if it was instintaneous. . i agree its stupid
but then again most everything doesnt make sense. perhaps in the parallel universe everything is done correctly.

furthermore u can make more money siting in town buy/resell than farming anywhere in the game . . gl in gw2. i wont be there

Because titles are basically meaningless.

AFKing the rings is a faster and cheaper way of maxing unlucky/lucky.

True, but rings are only available for a few days a year.

Lol trolls seriously. 9 rings is for those who want to get there Lucky title much more easily then wasting 6 years on retaining lockpicks, you get 250 points per retain of lockpicks, when starting out you hardly retain a single one. so you're screwed and spend 10mil+ gold on lockpicks alone for the title. theres 3 events out of the year that offer this, deal with it and get over yourself, it's a game if you dont like it don't play it, simple as that. and again troll 9 ring afk'ers less, idiot. and belive it or not a middle ring you will spend a mere 450k on this entire event, thats nothing since you get over 625k lucky points, go figure, read about it more on wiki before you troll.

I'm not playing right now!

And yes, it is a money sink and that's all it's meant to be.

@Deals - My question should of been phrased more like this: "Why is the easiest way of achieving this title to NOT play the game?" That doesn't make much sense.

It's been like that for years, before locked chests and lockpicks there was only Boardwalk during 3 events. Why anet never put in a more sensable way of getting it is beyond me, but after 6 years does it matter? people make money, people spend money, people don't play for a max of 16 days out of the year while getting lucky and unlucky. it's guildwars, didnt want to make it easy. i guess no idea

Actually using lockpicks is far faster then afk nine rings to achieve lucky/unlucky points. The difference is you have to play to achieve the title this way (less then 25% of my maxed unlucky/lucky title came from nine rings). The fastest way is to wait for a lucky weekend and do lockpicks you can get 20k lucky points an hour easy doing this which would take 125 hours or roughly 5 days of doing it straight. the nine rings takes closer to 20 straight days of afk or something like that.

Technically, you do have to play the game to get the gold to get the title. Its not like you arn't playing the game and then you're getting a title. I had to do quite a bit of "playing the game" to get the money to spend on the rings.

heck you want a totally useless title that gives you nothing in return? try party--at least with lucky you get a better percentage at salvaging and such, with party, you get

nothing....and clicking thousands of times (unless you are trying to see if you can click faster than the servers can catch up) isnt really playing the game either.
(I would argue almost the same with drunkard--especially since it was change to the clicking gaming...there is only what, one? skill that gets a benefit from drunkardness).

so its just an easier way to get the title--which does actually benefit your account slightly. (and yeah, a way to get people to part with their gold)

Yeah but since i've gone mils on lucky and over 350k on unlucky, running around on triple LP weekends is even more boring then 9 rings, i only do 9 rings for lucky tbh, 250 points a retain sucks a lot compared to 9 rings and it's SO MUCH LESS MONEY. I've gotten atleast 285k unlucky from lockpicks, and after this event i'll max with a mere 1000+ lockpicks and get lucky too. why spent 1200-1500gold on lockpicks for 1-5 retains NM/HM it's just a game a chance too.

I think your forgetting that with using lockpicks your working on four different titles simultaneously, Lucky, Unlucky, Treasure Hunter and Wisdom. If you farmed chests outside boreal to 10k for treasure title thats less money you have to spend on the other 3. In return you actually save money but at the cost of going afk doing something else like most do on 9 rings. If you decided to spend 7 million gold to max wisdom and maxed treasure hunter by farming eggs on easter then thats your own fault for not synchronizing titles like wiki and most people will tell you.
